Keypad failure, and burning smell at one year and four days.
I called the warranty department this morning, and explained that I'd used the microwave last evening, and today the touch pad doesn't respond. Told them I'd tried troubleshooting it, unplugging it, and while on the phone with them started to smell an electrical burning smell inside the unit. The person I was speaking to put me on hold for a few minutes, and I was disconnected with a recording telling me to call back since I had reached them outside regular business hours. Looking at my receipt, I picked it up on 11/26/2018, it failed 11/30/2019.

Am really pleased with this microwave. The interior size is perfect for everything that I have wanted to cook, especially cooking bacon. Just wish it had a soft close feature. It does have a rattle/vibration that is rather annoying.

Unit a little smaller than I would prefer. However, easy to use, and cooks evenly. Timer is functional however not very loud. Turns itself off without having to interact.

This microwave was given from my townhouse builder with 1 yr warranty and it stopped working right after the warranty was expired. There are 4 households in my building (completely separate units, but connected under one roof) and 3 out of 4 same microwaves were broken after ~ 1 yr of use. Not recommended

I had Whirlpool microwave 1.6 counter before I love it. I bought this unit again for out new kitchen WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK IT IS!
I have this unit less than a month but look like I have it for 5 years.
Whirlpool use a very thin plastic cover the Black color area. The finger print will be all over on the plastic and when I try to clean it leave make and scratch all over. Specially the area over number and press button the plastic start to have hole on it.

This is not a cheap microwave; should be a recall on this by whirlpool! I am an occasional user, so used it may be 20-30 times and start button works one day and doesn't work another day, later on starts working again and the next day doesn't work. Numbers do the same, each day different numbers don't work... What a horrible product! Such a waste of money!

This microwave was installed in our home right before we moved in. It did decent job at microwaving, but after 13 months, the extremely important Start button will no longer work. It is now an expensive clock that won't microwave anything just because of one button. If the power goes out, it will just be an expensive hole in the wall, because I won't be able to change the clock.

We bought this microwave to replace an older unit and as part of a kitchen remodel. We chose it for it's look, wattage and size. It is nice that it's a Whirlpool too, an American Co.
The unit works well and performs as expected. It has many features that we have yet to learn about and try. So we're looking forward to that. We would recommend this microwave.

This was installed as part of a new-construction home. After two years, several buttons on the touch pad stopped working, including the start button, rendering the device useless. When I contacted Whirlpool for repair, I was told this was "one of the few models Whirlpool makes that they don't make replacement parts for." It could not even be serviced by their contracted technicians. Of course, it's outside the warranty, so it will have to be completely replaced. Extremely frustrating.

My previous microwave was built-in in a cabinet with trim around it. When that died, this was identical in dimensions. Hence, purchased. The store was out of stock and my unit was shipped to me. Came within a few days. Functionally, it is very good microwave at a very attractive price. The door is a bit difficult to release/open. I would return it and get another unit, but taking it out and hauling it back to the store and remounting it is a hassle; so I will stay with the unit. That's the main reason for the 3 star rating.

2nd model to start chipping paint and rusting

The original version of this microwave came with our new house. The paint on the inside started chipping and rust started to appear after a few years. Eventually we bought a new one and have been careful not to let moisture sit in the microwave. But then today we noticed the pain was chipping on the inside of the microwave again after 18 months of owning it. No rust yet but now that the metal is exposed it's more likely.

Bought matching appliances & love the microwave so far. The only thing is the open button for the door is hard to push & it pushes the appliance on the counter trying to push it to open. :-( I would recommend to have it under the counter installed. That may help pushing on the button to open the door.
